China-based Huawei has announced that its Noah’s Ark Laboratory will collaborate with the Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) organization on new research into artificial intelligence (AI). Huawei is funding the project with $1 million and describes it as a “strategic partnership into basic research.” More specifically, the effort will delve into areas like deep learning, reinforcement learning, machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision.
BAIR, which is part of the University of California Berkeley, also has partnerships with Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Adobe, Amazon, Yahoo Japan, Nvidia, Intel, Siemens and Citris. Huawei spends about $8.1 billion annually on R&D.
