At an event on Wednesday, Apple refreshed its hardware lineup, revealing new device features that will present opportunities for the mobile development industry. For the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models, the most significant new capability is 3D Touch, which allows the smartphones to sense pressure and provide tactile feedback. The device also has improved photography and video capabilities. Pre-orders will begin September 12 with the new iPhones becoming available September 25.
The iPad is becoming more like Microsoft Surface with the release of the iPad Pro. The large screen, optional keyboard and optional stylus are turning the tablet into a content creation device instead of just a content consumption device. They also present mobile development firms with new possibilities for their apps.
Apple also updated Apple TV with a new focus on apps. In addition, it now includes Siri-based search capabilities and a new multitouch remote.
