How Much Would It Cost to Buy Every App in the App Store?

GigaOm has published an article that takes a detailed look at the paid apps in Apple’s App Store. It found that the App Store currently includes more than 760,000 apps, and if you downloaded every single one of them, it would cost you $1.13 million.

It also broke out app prices by category. When it comes to the average price per app, the most expensive app categories by far were medical with an average price of $11.39 and business with an average price of $11.28. At the other end of the spectrum are games, which have an average price of $1.69 per paid app. But despite having the lowest prices, games generate the most revenue of any category.

Other tidbits of interest to the mobile development industry from the article include the following:

  • Six categories — Education, Games, Books, Medical, Business and Reference — account for more than half of all the apps in the App Store.
  • The category with the highest total cost (the prices for all paid apps added together) was education with a total cost of $173,446.87.
  • The categories with the most paid apps are games (63,925), education (42,713) and entertainment (29,669).
  • The categories with the fewest paid apps are catalogs (632), weather (1,484) and news (2,355).
