Recruiting platform Hired has released some new data that claims freelance tech workers can make more than those with full-time jobs. Based on data from 10,000 employers, contract technology workers are making an average of $71 per hour. If you multiply that out by 40 hours and 52 weeks a year, it comes to $147,680. By comparison, the average full-time tech employee makes $122,762.
Of course, freelancing has its downsides, like no paid benefits or vacation time.
However, employers seem to be more interested in hiring contract workers. According to Hired, the number of companies open to hiring freelancers has “quadrupled.”
