In a recent blog post, Google announced its plans to require all Android apps available through the Google Play store to support 64-bit. The change will take effect in August 2019, at which point mobile development pros can continue to offer 32-bit apps, but only if they also have 64-bit versions available.
“For apps that use native libraries, 64-bit code typically offers significantly better performance, with additional registers and new instructions,” Google said.
Currently, about 40 percent of Android apps support 64-bit.
