Google has added a new tool to its development platform that is designed to encourage developers to adapt their apps for Android tablets. From now one, when mobile development firms update an app or publish a new one in Google Play, they will see a checklist that shows whether they have met Google’s tablet optimization guidelines. The guidelines cover things like screen sizes, Android versions and tablet-sized screenshots.
Part of the reason for the push may be a new Strategy Analytics report which shows that Android’s tablet market share is catching up to Apple’s iPad. In the first quarter, Android had 43.1 percent of the tablet market to 48.2 percent for iOS.
