Surprising the mobile development industry, Google has unexpectedly released the final consumer version of Android P, now known as Android 9 “Pie.” Compared to previous versions of Android, the release has a very different interface that is more in keeping with Google’s Material Design guidelines. In addition, it features notched display support, gesture navigation and better battery life.
Google had pushed out the last developer preview of Android P only 12 days ago, so the final release came unexpectedly quickly. Smartphone manufacturers will likely start pushing the update to their customers by the end of the year.
