Google Play has added a new kind of warning that could impact the mobile development industry. The Android app store is now alerting users when they attempt to download an app that contains ads. To support the notifications, it is requiring developers with apps that include ads to use a special tag.
It’s not clear if the change will reduce the number of users who download app-supported ads, or if any developers will de-list their apps on Google Play rather than use the ad tag. For some time Google Play has been warning users about apps with in-app purchases, and in-app purchases remain the most common way to mobile development firms to monetize their apps.
