Faced with lagging sales of its Nook tablets, Barnes & Noble has made a dramatic change that could help it better compete with Amazon’s devices. The company has decided to enable Nooks to access Google Play, as well as its own app store.
For customers, this means access to all the apps and other content that is available for other Android devices. And if they’ve purchased items from Google Play via another device, those will also be available on their Nooks.
For the mobile development industry, it means they can sell apps on yet another Android device.
And if Barnes & Noble’s gamble plays off, it could mean increased Nook sales for the bookseller.
