Google has announced a fairly significant change for its Google Play app store: the store will now offer a “Designed for tablets” section for apps. And if you visit the store from a tablet, you’ll see the tablet apps by default. In order to be included in the section, apps must meet Google’s tablet app criteria.
Industry watchers say the move will be good for both tablet owners and developers. GigaOm’s Alex Colon commented, “I wouldn’t be surprised if this attracts more tablet app developers as well. There are plenty of Android tablets out there, and now there is far less chance for a new tablet app to get lost in the mix among a number of phone apps.”
