The next version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, is due for release in October or November. Google has not released an SDK yet, but it has recently published some technical guidance.

Because Ice Cream Sandwich will run on both smartphones and tablets, the guidance offers some tips for adjusting to the great differences in screen sizes. It appears as though apps written for the Honeycomb version of Android won’t need a lot of adaptation, but developers will have to wait for the SDK to know for sure.
