Google has launched a new search engine designed to make it easier for data scientists, big data application developers and others to find the data they need. Called Dataset Search, the new tool is currently in beta trials. In order to have their datasets included, universities, government agencies and other organizations that publish large quantities of data will need to use special metatags. That will make it easier for other people to find published data.
Jeni Tennison, CEO of the Open Data Institute (ODI), said, “Dataset search has always been a difficult thing to support, and I’m hopeful that Google stepping in will make it easier.”
