At a watch and jewelry show in Europe, Google, Intel and watchmaker TAG Heuer announced plans to release a new Android-powered smartwatch. Unlike most other smartwatches, the new wearable will look like a traditional watch.
“The effort signifies a new era of collaboration between Swiss watchmakers and Silicon Valley,” said TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver. “Swiss watchmaking and Silicon Valley is a marriage of technological innovation with watchmaking credibility.”
Industry analysts say the new product appears to be a direct response to the recently announced Apple Watch. The TAG Heuer watch is expected to be targeted at luxury watch buyers.
