At this year’s Google I/O developer conference, the company plans to do “a really big push around design,” says Google’s Jon Wiley. Staff designer and design evangelist Nadya Direkova explains, “At Google I/O this year, we will have sessions and workshops focused on design, geared for designers and developers who are interested in design.”

To kick off that design emphasis, the company has released a series of three videos that highlight Google’s design process for Glass, Maps and Search. “People are familiar with Google’s expertise when it comes to computer science, and our ability particularly within search to create the most relevant answer and deliver it to them as quickly as possible,” adds Wiley. “What doesn’t get talked about quite as often is…the nuance of crafting those experiences. When I think about great design, I think about it in terms of being able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. It’s about empathy.”
