Two of the most popular public cloud computing services will start charging users by the second. Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced per-second billing for EC2 last week, and now Google Compute Engine, Container Engine, Cloud Dataproc, and App Engine’s flexible environment virtual machines (VMs) will also charge by the second. Google says that the change will likely result only in small savings for some of its customers.

Microsoft Azure offers per-second billing for container instances, but not for VMs.
