Android users can now test the platform’s new Instant Apps features, which lets them try out apps without downloading them. For the time being, Instant Apps is only available for a handful of apps, including BuzzFeed, Wish, Periscope and Viki.

Google first announced the feature at last year’s I/O conference, when it said it would become available in late 2016, so Instant Apps is a little later than expected. The full SDK will not be released for several more months, and until then, mobile development firms must apply if they want to be part of the program.

Instant Apps can function like a cross between a mobile Website and an app. They can offer more features than a typical website, but are much easier for users to access than a traditional app requiring a download.
