Google has long been very active in the open source community, and now it is cementing that commitment by becoming a platinum member of the Linux Foundation. In addition, Sarah Novotny, who leads open source strategy for Google Cloud Platform, will become a member of the foundation’s board of directors.
“Google is one of the biggest contributors to and supporters of open source in the world, and we are thrilled that they have decided to increase their involvement in the Linux Foundation,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director of the foundation.
Earlier this week, Chinese firm Tencent also announced plans to become a platinum member of the Linux Foundation. Other platinum members include AT&T, Cisco, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm, Samsung and VMware.
