Google has revealed that it is working on a project called “The Physical Web,” which would take the Internet of Things (IoT) to a new level. “People should be able to walk up to any smart device – a vending machine, a poster, a toy, a bus stop, a rental car – and not have to download an app first,” explained Google’s Scott Jenson. “Everything should be just a tap away.” The project would give each smart device its own Web address, much like websites have their own address on the Internet.
The Physical Web is still years away from becoming a reality, but Google’s Chrome division is spearheading the effort to create new standards that will enable it.
