Black Girls Code, an organization devoted to introducing young girls of color to programming, has announced that it has received a $255,000 donation from General Motors. The organization will use the money to fund activities to “lay a foundation to fully engage girls of color in Detroit,” said Black Girls Code founder Kimberly Bryant.
GM CEO Mary Barra said that her company is going to need more developers to help create electric and self-driving cars. “It’s one of the reasons that it’s our mission to help build the next generation of STEM leaders, with an emphasis on expanding opportunities to women and other underrepresented groups,” she said.
