GM Donates $250,000 to Girls Who Code

GM has donated $250,000 to Girls Who Code (GWC), a non-profit encouraging women to pursue STEM education and careers. The money will help the organization expand its after-school clubs that seek to interest young women in technology and related fields. In addition, GM executives will be volunteering to work with GWC clubs, and they are inviting 30 students from GWC to an event at the North American Auto Show in Detroit.

Research conducted by GWC and Accenture has found that the number of women employed in development and other computing fields has dropped from 37 percent in 1995 to 24 percent today. GWC and GM hope to reverse that trend.
