The non-profit Girls Who Code has announced plans to expand its Summer Immersion Program, which provides seven weeks of programming training and internship to young women in high school. Last year, the program had 19 sessions that reached 375 students, but this year it is planning on 60 sessions for 1,200 students.
Large companies host the Summer Immersion Program and provide mentors for the young women. New organizations participating this year include Accenture, Adobe, AIG, Akamai, AOL, AppNexus, AT&T, BSA, Electronic Arts, Expedia, Facebook, GE, Goldman Sachs, Google, Groupon, IAC, IBM, Lockheed Martin, MassMutual, Microsoft, Moody’s, Pixar Animation Studios, Square, The Honest Company, Twitter, Viacom, Intel, Intuit and Verizon.
Girls Who Code will begin accepting applications for next year’s Summer Immersion Program on January 15, 2015.
