According a new report by Gartner, annual global smartphone sales will go from 172 million devices in 2009 to 876 million by 2014, and Google’s Android operating system will dominate the market with 29.6 percent.

ITWire’s Stuart Corner reports, “In the same period Apple’s iOS will hover between 14 and 17 percent, declining to 14.9 after a 2013 peak of 17.1 percent. Symbian, Gartner says, will decline steadily from 46.9 percent in 2009 to 30.2 percent in 2014. Likewise Research in Motion will decline from 19.9 percent to 11.7 percent and Windows from 8.9 percent to 3.9 percent.”

Telecoms continue to add more Android devices to their roster.

Telecom New Zealand says it will increase its Android smartphone selection to nine in the coming months, Corner said. They currently offer five Androids.
