A new report from Gartner forecasts strong growth for the Internet of Things (IoT). By the end of 2015, the firm expects there will be 5 billion connected things, growing to 25 billion (that’s three for every person on earth) by 2020.
Gartner’s Jim Tully says this growth will “boost the economic impact of the IoT as consumers, businesses, city authorities, hospitals and many other entities find new ways in which to exploit the technology.”
However, not everyone agrees with Gartner’s assessment. Last year Cisco predicted there will be twice as many connected devices—50 million—by 2020.
