Good news for the mobile development industry: Gartner is predicting an increase in spending on computing devices, particularly spending on mobile devices. The market analyst firm says worldwide device spending will increase 2 percent to reach $600 billion in 2017, with 2.3 billion devices shipping. Mobile spending will account for 67 percent of that amount — a 4.3 percent increase over last year. Much of that growth will likely come from people in emerging markets upgrading their smartphones.
Gartner expects that the number of PCs shipped this year will decrease, but PC spending will likely remain flat as prices rise to account for increasing component costs.
