On Friday, the first release candidate for open source FreeBSD 8.1 hit the Internet.
FreeBSD 8.1 is the first major update since 8.0 was released in November 2009. According to the FreeBSD calendar, this release candidate is a week behind schedule.
It’s available for Amd64, i386, ia64, Powerpc and Sparc64 architecture.
