Ford and DJI are sponsoring a development contest with a $100,000 top prize. In order to compete, developers must create a tool that will allow users to launch a drone from the bed of a Ford F-150 truck for the purpose of surveying an emergency zone. The vehicle and the drone will also need to share data and communicate via Ford’s AppLink or OpenXC technologies, allowing the drone to catch up with the truck and land on it.
“At Ford, we are driving innovation in every part of our business to help make people’s lives better,” said Ken Washington, Ford vice president, Research and Advanced Engineering. “Working with DJI and the United Nations, there is an opportunity to make a big difference with vehicles and drones working together for a common good.”
