The heyday for scientific calculators is behind us, but now Boston-based Liquidware has launched the Open SciCal X101 project to breath new life into the industry.

The result is a 100 percent open source scientific calculator based on Linux, Arduino and the BeagleBoard design specifications.

According TCMnet’s Divya Narain, Liquidware’s calculator platform gives users the ability to “write in native, familiar programming languages such as C, Perl, Scientific Python, or R.”

The Liquidware Open SciCal X101 is available as a kit from LiquidWare.com or fully assembled from resellers.
