Firefox OS Is Dead

Mozilla has announced that it will stop supporting Firefox OS after it releases the 2.6 version of the operating system, an event which is expected in May. And the organization has told the mobile development industry that it will stop accepting Android, desktop and tablet apps for its Marketplace, but it will continue to accept Firefox OS apps until 2017.

Ari Jaaksi, Mozilla’s senior vice president of Connected Devices, first tipped the news last December when he said, “Firefox OS proved the flexibility of the Web, scaling from low-end smartphones all the way up to HD TVs. However, we weren’t able to offer the best user experience possible, and so we will stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels.”
