A new development-related hashtag is sweeping across Twitter: female programmers and engineers are posting photos of themselves along with #ilooklikeanengineer. The trend started with a 22-year-old platform engineer named Isis Wenger who received sexist comments after appearing in a recruiting campaign for her employer. She first posted the hashtag, which soon took off.

“I think the message went viral because it’s not just my message,” Wenger said. “It addresses a problem that many people of different genders and ethnic backgrounds face.”
