Red Hat’s community Linux distribution, Fedora, is dumping the X Window System for Wayland.
It’s not going to happen right away. According the ComputerWorld’s Steven Vaughan-Nichols, Fedora 15 will include Wayland as an option for users to tinker with, but X will remain the default.
There’s a ton of work to be done before Wayland can topple X, but with Ubuntu and now Fedora on its side, progress could come quickly.
