A research firm called Input surveyed federal and IT professionals and found that under President Obama administration open source software will grow.
Trendy cloud computing was on the list too, as well as, virtualization.
PC World reported that Input predicts US government spending on technology will increase 3.5 percent a year until 2014. Of that spending, cloud computing will increase from $370 million in 2009 to $1.2 billion by 2014.
“President Barack Obama’s administration is pushing cloud computing as a way to cut spending on new hardware and software and to reduce energy costs,” according to PC World.
Input’s Deniece Peterson told PC World that while federal agencies have been using open source software for years, Peterson believes that tight budgets could increase open source software usage.
