Facebook has announced plans to close down Parse, the mobile backened-as-a-service it acquired in 2013 for a reported $85 million. The services will no longer be available after Jan. 28, 2017.
Parse is a cross-platform cloud computing service for mobile development that offers tools for tasks like push notifications, social integration and data storage. “We’re proud that we’ve been able to help so many of you build great mobile apps, but we need to focus our resources elsewhere,” co-founder Kevin Lacker blogged. He added, “We understand that this won’t be an easy transition, and we’re working hard to make this process as easy as possible.”
