Reuters is reporting that Facebook plans to swell its headcount by up to 14 percent, adding approximately 1,200 new employees to its ranks. The new hires will include employees for its Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) division, experts in drone and satellite technology, and salespeople and software developers for the social networking site.

As of September 2014, Facebook had 8,348 full-time employees compared to 55,000 at Google and 127,000 at Microsoft. However, the Facebook staff are more productive, earning their company an average of $384,000 each, compared to $300,000 for the average Googler and $183,000 for each Microsoft worker.
