Facebook has released under an open source license the software it uses for Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions. CTF contests challenge teams of hackers to accomplish a specific objective, and Facebook has been holding CTF events since 2013. Facebook CTF has been used for events at the DefCon security conference, the University of Michigan and the University of Cambridge.
The platform can be used to teach development students about security issues. “We’re open-sourcing it now in response to the high volume of requests from conferences around the world to run our CTF at their events,” said Javier Marcos, a Facebook security engineer.
The code for Facebook CTF (FBCTF) is now available on GitHub.
