Facebook Buys Parse Mobile Development Platform

Facebook has announced that it has purchased Parse, a company that offers backend-as-a-service tools for mobile developers. “By making Parse a part of Facebook Platform, we want to enable developers to rapidly build apps that span mobile platforms and devices,” blogged Facebook’s Douglas Purdy.

Existing Parse customers will continue to be able to use the service, and future Parse customers will not be required to use Facebook. However, development firms will have the option to use the service for their Facebook apps.

The companies did not disclose the terms of the deal, but some reports say Facebook paid about $85 million for Parse.
