Facebook has posted a solid financial report for the first quarter of 2013, and a good portion of its success can be attributed to the mobile development industry. According to Sheryl Sandberg, 3800 mobile developers have been using Facebook’s app install ads, driving 25 million installs. Among the top 100 iOS and Android apps, 40 percent took advantage of the Facebook ads.
Because the app stores are increasingly crowded, it can be difficult for apps to stand out and attract users. Facebook says that its ads offer an alternative.
“We’re uniquely positioned to offer developers massive reach,” said Facebook’s Sandberg. “Even if every recommendation isn’t one you take….we think [app discovery] is good for the community.”
