As part of its response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook has announced that it will begin paying users and developers who report third-party apps that are misusing data. “Facebook’s bug bounty program will expand so that people can also report to us if they find misuses of data by app developers. We are beginning work on this and will have more details as we finalize the program updates in the coming weeks,” wrote Ime Archibong, Facebook’s vice president of product partnerships.

Developers caught misusing data will be banned from Facebook, and the social network will notify users about violations.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating whether Facebook has violated a previous settlement agreement with the agency, which was related to privacy issues.
