Former JBoss chief Marc Fleury blasted MySQL co-founder Monty Widenius for his campaign to stop Oracle’s ownership of the popular open source database.
The Register’s Gavin Clarke reported today that Fleury took Widenius to task on his blog. He wrote that the situation is a “disgrace” that hurts Sun Microsystems and the future of open source technology.
Fluery blogged that Widenius’ actions to stop Oracle from taking ownership of MySQL are “making OSS acquisitions look very dangerous and dicey.”
The former JBoss executive knows something about acquisitions. In 2006, Red Hat purchased his open source project for $350 million. And in 2008, Sun purchased MySQL for $1 billion.
“It seems that the issue for Fleury is simple: MySQL was sold to Sun, so MySQL’s founders and former owners have no say in what happens next,” reported Clarke.
“I got to say that the boys at MySQL have made a huge hash of things. After selling $1B to Sun, they want their cake and eat it too. So they leave, fork and otherwise raise a huge stink,” Fleury blogged.
