This isn’t exactly new news, but in April, EditShare announced their plan to release their Academy and Emmy award-winning Lightworks as an open source platform.
This is kind of a big deal for people looking for a professional-grade video editing application that runs on Linux and doesn’t cost $20,000.
According to the press release, “The company has transformed the time-honored editing solution into Lightworks Open Source, the industry’s first open-source development initiative for a large-scale, non-linear editing platform.”
A Linux version of Lightworks is expected in the 3rd quarter of this year.
