A new survey of 3,500 developers finds that base salaries for software developers and testing professionals remained essentially flat for 2012, but those with a “software engineer” title saw three percent salary increases. When factoring in bonuses and other cash compensation, developers’ total pay rose overall.
Titles with the highest overall base pay included architect, systems architect, software engineer, project leader and database administrator. The lowest paying titles were help desk specialist, general IT, webmaster, systems administrator and web developer. Developers in the Pacific region had the highest salaries, while those in the Midwest made the least.
The survey also found two-thirds of those surveyed said they were satisfied overall with their current positions.
