Canonical has announced that it will release a developers preview of Ubuntu for smartphones on Thursday, February 21. At the same time, it will publish tools that will allow interested users to “flash” their Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones with the new operating system.
“Our platform supports a wide range of screen sizes and resolutions. Developers who have experience bringing up phone environments will find it relatively easy to port Ubuntu to current handsets,” said Canonical’s Pat McGowan. “We look forward to adding support for additional devices for everyday testing and experimentation.”
Canonical will also be flashing phones at its booth at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which starts this week.
