If everything goes according to plan, Debian “Squeeze” 6.0 will be released on the first weekend of February.
“We now have a target date of the weekend of 5th and 6th February for the release,” Debian developer Neil McGovern said. “We have checked with core teams, and this seems to be acceptable for everyone.”
According to a draft of what’s new in Squeeze, Debian 6.0 will be running Linux version 2.6.32, Python 2.6 and 3.1. Also, dpkg no longer will require Perl, which will make Debian a lot more embedded-friendly.
