Cyanogen, a startup that makes an alternative version of the Android operating system, has laid off about 20 percent of its staff. That sparked a round of rumors that the company was making a major strategic shift to focus on app development instead of its flagship OS.
However, Cyanogen CEO Kirt McMaster has refuted those rumors. He tweeted, “Cyanogen NOT pivoting to apps. We are an OS company and our mission of creating an OPEN ANDROID stands. FALSE reporting was outstanding.”
In a blog post, company co-founder Steve Kondik added, “CyanogenMod isn’t going anywhere.”
