CodeWeavers has released the newest version of CrossOver. It’s called ‘The Impersonator,’ and it’s built using the latest open source Wine 1.3.9.

CrossOver lets Mac and Linux users run Windows applications such as Microsoft Office. But it’s not an emulator like VirtualBox– you don’t need to run a Windows operating system.

Wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator. Wine provides replacements for Windows DLLs.

“The primary new feature of these releases is our new ‘CrossTie’ technology,” CodeWeaver CEO Jeremy White said. “CrossTie builds on and expands on our compatibility profiles so that not only is CrossOver constantly updated with the latest and greatest recipes, those recipes can now be launched with a single click. It is now easier than ever to install thousands of different applications on your Mac or Linux system using the most up-to-date recipe.”
