First came the text editor, then the IDE. Is the next evolution of coding tools a browser-based editor?

Released under an MIT license, CodeMirror is a JavaScript-based code editor that supports more than 60 languages, including favorites like Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, PHP, Python and others.

Tools like CodeMirror could make cloud development more appealing for developers. The project lists on its website a number of organizations that are already using CodeMirror in their own offerings, including several cloud-based services.
