Cisco is forecasting strong growth for cloud computing. The networking behemoth says that the cloud will account for 95 percent of all data center traffic by 2021, up from 88 percent in 2016. In fact, the company believes the cloud (both private and public) will essentially replace traditional data centers, as 94 percent of workloads will be handled by cloud data centers by 2021.

In addition, the company says that data center network traffic will undergo tremendous growth, climbing from 6.0 ZB in 2016 to 19.5 ZB in 2021. Much of that traffic growth may be a result of more Internet of Things (IoT) adoption. Cisco anticipates 13.7 billion IoT connections in 2021, up from 5.8 billion in 2016.
