A new report from Flurry states that app downloads on Christmas Day 2013 were up 11 percent over 2012, setting a new record. However, the firm also noted that the year-over-year growth trend has slowed as the market for mobile devices nears saturation.
The report added that downloads spiked on the holiday as people unwrapped their gifts—they were up 91 percent compared to the preceding days in December. But Flurry expects that in future years, Christmas may begin to have less of an impact on the mobile development industry. “The biggest growth in mobile now is coming in countries where Christmas is a less significant holiday or not celebrated at all, so new device activations and app downloads come at different times of the year in those places,” said the firm.
