The future for the LAMP stack in the cloud is anything but a certainty.
Tech blogger Geva Perry asked the question, “Who will build the LAMP cloud?”
To encourage cloud development, everyone is trying to rebrand their existing technology solution as “cloud-based.”
When Zend Technologies landed $9 million in funding last month, Moshe Mor of Greylock Partners said, “Today’s enterprises are looking to agile Web and Cloud-based technologies such as PHP to deliver business value better and faster.”
So now PHP is a “cloud-based technology,” Perry asked.
If cloud computing becomes the de facto delivery system for Web services, will PHP remain a relevant Web technology 10 years from now? And if not, can the LAMP stack survive?
Or perhaps, a better question might be, “Do we need a LAMP cloud?”
