Blender Foundation Releases Open Source Short Film Sintel

Sintel is a Sci-Fi short fantasy film built using Blender 3D open source software.

With a budget of $550,000, a staff of 14 people working full time spent a year making this animated film about a little girl that befriends a baby dragon, only to have to face off against a much larger dragon to save her friend.

The film and all of the raw material is being released under a Creative Commons license that allows for commercial reuse.

“The idea of this approach is to promote Blender as well as give aspiring film makers an idea of how animated movies like these are made,” GigaOM’s Janko Roettgers said.
