Synergy Research Group has released its quarterly report on the cloud computing market that examines market share for infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and hosted private cloud. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is still the market leader with 34 percent of the market, but Microsoft Azure saw the biggest quarterly gains, increasing its market share to 14 percent. The other top five included IBM (7 percent), Google (7 percent) and Alibaba (4 percent).
Among the market leaders, only IBM lost market share for the quarter. However, the next 10 largest cloud computing providers saw their combined market share drop by 1 percent, and the rest of the market saw a 4 percent decline.
Overall the cloud infrastructure market grew by 45 percent to an estimated $17 billion.
